Celebrating Women in STEM: Reflections on March Events

As March unfolds, it brings with it a wave of celebration for Women's History Month, culminating in the vibrant International Women's Day on March 8th. To all the phenomenal women out there, Happy Women's Day! This month has been particularly enriching for me as I had the opportunity to immerse myself in three empowering events. These events, organized by KCA university,Women Techmakers(Nairobi), and  Africa's Talking, were not only informative but also inspiring, showcasing the incredible strides women are making in technology and the importance of community and mentorship in their journeys.

The KCA university Women in Tech event, organized by Olive International Olive International, was a two-day gathering where women shared their experiences and challenges in the tech industry. The highlight was the emphasis on the need for mentors to guide and support women in their careers. We had a lot of women from Stanbic Bank who shared their personal experiences making us feel more motivated. It was more like let's talk event. Everyone who attended the event was awarded a certificate. Something to add to their CV

The Women Techmakers(Nairobi)  event, hosted by Google Developer Group Nairobi, ALX Kenya, ICP, and Infix  was a stylish affair with a theme of "Impacting the Future." It featured a hackathon where participants built with GEMINI AI, panel discussions on the pros and cons of AI, and a fun day with Gemini AI. This was a two-day event on the first Saturday we had the hackathon and on the other Saturday, we had the award ceremony.

Anyways Infinix is having a challenge on their latest model you can check it out.

The Africa's Talking event was a one-day event that included talks, fun facts about Women's Month, and demo interviews. This was a kind of event. We had fun fact sessions. I did not know this month was a movement done by women anyway I really did not get much of the details with that. The cake-cutting session was there. I really loved how people turned up for this event

Reflecting on these events, I was struck by the power of community and mentorship. The stories shared by the women were both empowering and heartening, highlighting the challenges they face and the support they need to overcome them. The hackathon and panel discussions were particularly enlightening, offering insights into the future of technology and the role of women in shaping it.

Overall, these events were a testament to the strength, resilience, and innovation of women in STEM. They were a celebration of women's achievements and a call to action for continued support and encouragement.

As March draws to a close, let's continue celebrating the incredible achievements of women in STEM and beyond. Until next time, stay inspired!
